Do you know?

Basil has been used for so long that it is difficult to identify its origins; many believe it came from Africa, but it has a long history of legends and customs around the world. The ancient Egyptians used it as a medicine for scorpion stings and snake bites. Pliny the Elder, a Roman naturalist, recommended basil tea as a remedy to calm nerves, soothe headaches and avoid fainting.

The early Greeks and Ancient Romans thought the plant would grow lush, strong and fragrant, but only if the gardener screamed and cursed as he sowed it. Basil, also known as Witches Herb, comes from the Greek word “basilikon” and means king. It was in fact considered a royal herb, thanks to its smell suitable for the home of a ruler.

It was also used to place it around the house or on the floor, to purify the surrounding space, but also to attract money, health and luck. A jar of basil makes a great housewarming gift, perfect for new owners!

Get the taste of all our real Italian sauces, each crafted with a deep respect for tradition and a commitment to quality. Our sauces celebrate the rich heritage of Italian cuisine, utilizing only the finest ingredients sourced from local producers.

  • MARINARA SAUCE: The ingredients of our Marinara Sauce are few and simple: to our base, with extra virgin olive oil, chopped onions, slices of garlic, tomatoes, and sea salt, we add a dash of pepper and basil. Then it’s obviously the time for the star of this sauce: the oregano.
  • ARRABBIATA SAUCE: This sauce is another Italian cuisine's classic. To our base we add a dash of pepper, basil, oregano and then chili pepper. For our sauce we choose to have the best, so we transplant some Calabrian chili in our area, to have the best Italy can offer and don’t sacrifice the freshness of our ingredients.
  • ROASTED GARLIC SAUCE: Our Roasted Garlic Sauce is made with exceptional care. We choose only the most scented garlic and we separate and peel every clove. Then we sliced and roasted the unpeeled cloves, after that we add them to the sauce with some carrot purée, to balance the strong taste and help you savor every ingredient, from our base to the basil and obviously the garlic.
  • FOUR CHEESE SAUCE: For our Four Cheese Sauce we have chosen four very tasty Italian kinds of cheese, each of them with the DOP (or PDO, Protected Designation of Origin) denomination. We have three hard cheese, DOP Parmigiano Reggiano cheese aged over 36 months, DOP Pecorino Romano cheese, DOP Trentingrana cheese, and one soft cheese, DOP Asiago cheese.
  • VODKA SAUCE: Our signature sauce combines peeled tomatoes, parmesan, pecorino, extra virgin olive oil, fresh onions, garlic, and a splash of vodka. This recipe is inspired by the time-honored traditions of Italian grandmothers and mothers.
  • TOMATO BASIL SAUCE: Our Tomato Basil Sauce showcases the vibrant flavor of fresh basil, perfectly blended with ripe tomatoes to create a simple yet delightful sauce. The basil takes center stage, offering a delicate taste that evokes the warmth of summer gatherings and family meals.

The process

In Italy, we consider the preparation to be the final ingredient in any dish. This is when we add the finishing touch: Love. Our cooking method is the oldest in the world, and it’s still treasured by Italian grandmas and mothers throughout San Marzano. It’s called 50 Minutes Lento & Stirred, and it’s practiced every day in every batch of sauce we make.

Introducing 50 minutes lento & stirred Time is our secret ingredient. Each sauce is simmered slowly ("lento," as we say in Italy) over low heat and stir, stir, stirred without stopping. This method celebrates every ingredient and creates the perfect balance of flavors. Rich and warming, yet light and natural—this is what Italian sauce should taste like. We slow down and take our time on every sauce so you can enjoy the timeless flavor in just 3 minutes. But life is short, so don’t forget to stop and smell the basil now and again.
